United for Navid Campaign calls on The Association For International Sport For All (TAFISA) to suspend all activities with the Islamic Republic’s Sports for All Federation until Iran adheres to international sports laws and ends the involvement of politicians and the military in the federation.
On its official Instagram page, the ISAF has posted the photos of Qassem Soleimani, the former commander of Iran’s Quds Force, a terrorist organization according to the United Nations, the European Union and the US, with the phrase “hard revenge” clearly visible. This is in reference to comments made by the Iran’s supreme leader to take revenge against the U.S. in retaliation for the killing of Soleimani. The ISAF has become a political tool rather than a federation to promote wellbeing and healthy living.
The ISAF has also sponsored demonstrations to commemorate Qassem Soleimani, a clear breach of TAFISA’s charter and bylaws and contravenes the charter of the International Olympic Committee.
The United For Navid campaign calls on TAFISA to suspend all its activities and dealings with the Islamic Republic until Iran adheres to the letter and the spirit of international laws of sports and prevents meddling by politicians and military figures.
United for Navid campaign was created by a group of human rights activists and Iranian athletes and national team members, to highlight the politicization of Iranian sports. The campaign was formed to protest the unjust execution of champion wrestler Navid Afkari in 2020.
