United For Navid, is a group of prominent Iranian activists and athletes, led by women’s rights campaigner Masih Alinejad. United For Navid, calls on the international organizations, such as the IOC and FIFA to suspend Islamic Republic from international sports.
Noble Peace Prize winner Shirin Ebadi, former Iranian kickboxing champion Majid Fallah and former Iranian Greco-Roman national coach Sardar Pashaei are also calling for Islamic Republic to be suspended from international sports in response to the killing of wrestler Navid Afkari and Islamic Republic’s systemic discrimination against women, including female athletes who have faced numerous restrictions.
Navid Afkari, a 27-year old national wrestling champion wrestler, was killed on September 12, 2020 by the Islamic Republic of Iran. Afkari was punished for taking part in demonstrations against economic hardships in the summer of 2018. He was tortured to obtain false confessions, unjustly convicted and hurriedly executed despite a global outcry from world leaders and sporting personalities.
